JTOP's Awesome App
A three-in-one Android toolkit — a budget tracker with bank sync, a dividend and portfolio tracker, and an AI-written IT news briefing — with a "liquid glass" look.
I wanted one app for the things I check every week: where my money went, how my dividend stocks are doing, and what’s going on in IT. Open it and pick a mode: Budget Tracker, Dividend Tracker or IT News. Each has its own screens and navigation, and the whole app uses a “liquid glass” style, with translucent panels over a gradient background.
My financial data stays on the phone, in a local database. The app only goes online for two optional features: syncing bank transactions and pulling the news.
Budget Tracker
- Dashboard: net worth (balances minus debts), this month’s income, spending and net, and the budgets that are closest to running over.
- Accounts and transactions: checking, savings or any account you add, with balances worked out live from every transaction. Add income or expenses with a category, note and date, or import a bank’s CSV export with column mapping and a preview.
- Budgets: a monthly budget per category with a progress bar for each, and a Compare Months card that shows what changed between any two months, category by category.
- Reports: income vs. expenses over the last six months, and pie charts of spending and income by category.
- Bills: due dates with a phone notification a set number of days before each one, and a Mark Paid button.
- Debts: balances, interest rates and minimum payments, with payments recorded against each debt and progress toward paying it off.
Bank Sync
The budget tracker can pull transactions from my bank automatically, read-only, through SimpleFIN Bridge. No server is involved: the app talks to SimpleFIN directly and keeps its access encrypted on the phone.
- Syncs every day in the background, or on demand. Only posted transactions come in, since pending ones can still change.
- No duplicates: if a bank transaction matches one I already entered by hand (same account, direction and amount, within five days), it’s linked to my entry instead of added again, and my category and note are kept. If more than one entry could match, it goes to a Review screen for me to pick.
- Category rules like “description contains KROGER → Groceries” sort new transactions automatically. Anything unmatched waits in Review, where I can categorize it and save a rule in one step.
- A cutover date for each account, so older hand-entered history stays as it is.
- Match bank balance lines an account’s total up with the bank’s without touching any transactions.
Dividend Tracker
- Holdings: the stocks I own, with shares and cost basis, and gain or loss in dollars and percent for each holding and for the whole portfolio.
- Dividends: each payout logged against its holding, with totals for this month and year, week-over-week and month-over-month changes, and bar charts by week and by month. Every view can show one holding or all of them.
IT News
Pick a topic (Microsoft, Security, Hardware, or a Full Briefing) and the app asks Claude, with web search turned on, to put together a short sysadmin news briefing from current sources. Each story links to where it came from. It uses my own Anthropic API key, stored encrypted on the phone.
Also
- Backup and restore: every table exports to a single JSON file and restores from one. A restore is all-or-nothing, so a bad file changes nothing. Keys and bank access are left out of backups on purpose.
- Dark, light or system theme.
- A custom app icon drawn as vectors.
